FLASH

This page is devoted to a short (relatively speaking) demonstration of Macromedia FLASH. It will include several animations I have done along with links to much more professional sites. We will wrap-up with a set of instructions and some data files for building your own FLASH animation.

These files were built for an assignment in a class I was taking at the University of Baltimore. All three are limited to 600x200 pixels, and a total file size of 300kb each. The first is a digital logo, signature or moniker. The second file is an advertisement for the program at UofB. The third file is designed to get someone to click the button (which is what lots of banner ads on the web are really designed to do - get you to click the button).

Note: All three files have been paused so you can savour each animation without the interference or distraction caused by the other animations running simultaneously. To start any of the files, simple click on the large colored rectangle.

The first part of the assignment was a personal logo or signature animation. This animation is designed so that I can incorporate it into my web page at Montgomery College, where I am a faculty member in the Computer Science Department of the Rockville campus.

My second animation is still under heavy construction (more like the conceptual stage at this point), but will eventually be an advertisement for the School of Communication and Design.

My third animation is for a local liquor store celebrating the new Beaujolais that have just arrived from the west coast. Be sure to roll over the wine bottles, and click on the zoom buttons.

Several sites that do a much better job of using/creating FLASH are Macromedia (who produces FLASH), and Flash Planet. I have also included a short article I received via-email about FLASH called "FLASH in the Pan".

The sample we will be building in class is demonstrated at the top of the page (Cruisin). All of the data files you will need are already on your diskette, but you can also download the files and instructions (in case you have lost you diskette from the classroom training session).
